Claudio Novelli is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Bologna’s Centre for Digital Ethics (CEDE), based in the Department of Legal Studies. He completed his PhD in Law, Science, and Technology at CIRSFID, a research institute focused on human-centered AI at the same university. Additionally, he earned a cotutelle PhD in Droit from the University of Luxembourg’s Faculty of Law, Economics, and Finance (FDEF).
His research interests span legal theory, legal philosophy, the ethics of artificial intelligence, political philosophy, economic analysis of law, and cognitive sciences. Currently, he is working on a monograph that explores a cognitive theory of the concept of legal personhood. While spending time at the DEC as a visiting fellow in 2024, he will investigate the use of machine learning in the organization of political parties.
Claudio also engages in teaching roles. He leads a module in the course of “Logic and legal argumentation” and is a teaching assistant for “Philosophy of Law” courses at the University of Bologna.
