Visiting Assistants in Research

Occasionally, the DEC will host students who are currently enrolled in a graduate program at another university and who wish to pursue full time dissertation research at Yale. They may be admitted to the Division of Special Registration (DSR) as a Visiting Assistant in Research (VAR). VARs may not enrol in classes at Yale and are limited to a maximum of two years of study. Please make sure you are eligible before contacting us.

How to Apply

Applications should include:

  1. A cover letter indicating your interest in the DEC activities, your school affiliation and graduation year
  2. A short CV
  3. A project of some activities you may wish to develop

Visiting Fellows

DEC Visiting Fellowships are intended for established scholars and distinguished individuals whose presence at the DEC for a limited duration (between a month and a full academic year) will be of mutual benefit. They have outside employers and are paid by their employer while at Yale.

Visiting fellows are expected to attend DEC events and contribute to its activities (e.g., organize and lead a workshop, give talks, co-author research papers, develop fundraising opportunities, etc.).

How to Apply

Applications should include:

  1. A cover letter indicating your interest in the DEC activities and the Visiting Fellowship, two names of referees that may be contacted for letters of recommendation, and an indication of which months will be spent at Yale
  2. A short CV
  3. A brief research project, including the deliverable (1–3 pages)
