Joanna Carmona

Joanna oversees operations and helps shape the strategy and execution behind the Digital Ethics Center’s (DEC) programs, fellowships, events, and institutional initiatives.

Working closely with the DEC’s founding director, Joanna helps turn the Center’s intellectual vision into programs and collaborations that advance research and public dialogue on the ethical, legal, and social implications of digital technologies. Her portfolio spans financial and administrative management, human resources, communications, fellowship administration, and the delivery of international symposia and policy-focused convenings.

Joanna brings cross-functional experience in program management, organizational operations, human resources, communications, fundraising, and stakeholder engagement. Before joining the DEC, she worked at Yale School of Medicine, supporting human resources and academic hiring, and at Yale Library, where her work focused on communications and fundraising. Earlier in her career, Joanna helped establish the digital presence of a newly formed law firm in Dubai, UAE launching its communication channels and helping strengthen the firm’s visibility and professional profile. In the Philippines, she worked in government service, organizing programs and events that served constituents and helped build trust between the community and the local administration. These experiences shaped her ability to strengthen organizations, cultivate relationships across diverse communities, and translate institutional priorities into meaningful initiatives.

Beyond the DEC, Joanna has held leadership roles in Yale’s employee communities, including serving as Co-Chair of the Asian Network at Yale and Co-Chair of the Working Women’s Network Recognition Awards Committee. She received the Working Women’s Network Catalyst Award in 2022 and currently serves on the Recognition Awards Advisory Board.

Joanna holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Southern Connecticut State University and an MBA from the University of New Haven.
