Nicolas Gertler is a senior at Yale studying Cognitive Science. His research at Yale’s Digital Ethics Center focuses on agent interoperability.

Nicolas recently published a paper in Minds and Machines documenting the development of the Luciano Floridi Bot, the first publicly and freely available AI assistant built around a single scholar’s body of work. The bot has reached users in 107 countries and been covered by Yale News, Inside Higher Ed, Yale Medicine Magazine, and other outlets. Nicolas is also the founder of Mylon, an AI startup that partners with higher education institutes to build tools for teaching, research, and operations.

At Yale, Nicolas is the Student AI Ambassador at the Poorvu Center for Teaching & Learning, supporting faculty and administration with AI integration. Nicolas also founded Yale’s first Hacker House, a full-time residency in San Francisco that brings together top student founders at Yale to build their companies full time.

Nicolas developed MANTRA, an AI platform used by war crimes investigators in Ukraine to manage testimony and build cases against perpetrators of crimes against humanity. Built in collaboration with The Reckoning Project and Yale Jackson Senior Fellow Janine di Giovanni, MANTRA received support from the U.S. Department of State. Nicolas has also worked on AI policy with the U.S. Department of Education and the U.S. Senate.
